An asbestos survey is a building survey designed to identify if a premises contains any asbestos products.
How are Asbestos Surveys carried out?

If the surveyor suspects a product/material may contain asbestos, he would then take a small sample; this is analysed by a UKAS-accredited laboratory using powerful microscopes to determine if asbestos fibres are present.

Asbestos was banned in 1999, so any commercial building built before 2000 legally requires an asbestos management plan. An asbestos survey determines whether the property contains any asbestos materials/products and is the basis for the asbestos management plan.

Amosite (Brown Asbestos) can only be found in South Africa, hence the name Amosite (Asbestos Mines of South Africa). This type of asbestos is an amphibole, a needle-like fibre.
Crocidolite (Blue Asbestos) was mined in South Africa, South America and Australia. This type of asbestos is an amphibole, a needle-like fibre.
Some think that Crocidolite and Amosite are more dangerous than Chrysotile due to the needle-like fibre.
