Carry out asbestos sampling on the textured coating in the Dewsbury area for £150.00, including two samples (you pay £150.00). The textured coating samples are then analysed at a UKAS-accredited laboratory.

You may have textured coating on a ceiling, or the textured coating may be present on ceilings throughout the property; the textured coating may also be present on walls.

ARTEX was used extensively throughout the 1970s and 1980s and is found in residential and commercial properties.

3-5% chrysotile asbestos was used in the mixture to give additional strength to the material.

Hot Spots in the Textured Coating

The coatings were often mixed by hand, and the asbestos was added as part of the mixing process. This causes problems when sampling for asbestos as they are not a homogenous mixture, and therefore the asbestos tends to be concentrated in ‘hot spots’ and not uniform throughout the ceilings or walls.

Small samples of the textured coating are taken from different areas of the individual ceilings and placed into a sample bag.

Testing of the Textured Coating

The textured coating is then tested in the laboratory using powerful microscopes. They are looking for asbestos fibres in the textured coating sample; it’s not normally possible to detect asbestos fibre in the textured coating sample with the naked eye.
